Track Staff Vacation and Holiday
The words holiday or vacation have related meanings in different English-speaking countries and continents, but usually refer to one of the following activities or events:
- A general leave of absence from a regular occupation for rest or recreation
- A specific trip or journey for the purposes of recreation or tourism
- Official or unofficial observances or religious/national/cultural significance, often accompanied by celebrations or festivities e.g. public and religious holidays
Most countries around the world have laws mandating a certain number of days or time-off per year to be given to a worker. In Europe the legal minimum is 4 weeks, but in the US there is no such requirement. A common practice is for staff to take vacation time around traditional national holiday period to maximize their recreation time without expending too many vacation or holiday days.
Schedule24 Professional enables managers to track individual staff vacation or leave against their annual leave entitlement. Vacation can be scheduled in either full or half days, and a leave status report displays leave taken, leave scheduled (not yet taken) and leave outstanding against their entitlement.
This provides a more accurate status of leave than a simple balance count. Leave status can be extended to global counts by department, teams and job title. Enabling the business manager to identify groups that may have disproportionate leave yet to be taken toward the end of the leave year. Intervention can be made to reduce outstanding leave and avoid staff shortages in a particular group, before overtime is incurred.
Staff scheduling invariably works significantly ahead of current time, and special dates can be visually flagged to notify when public holidays or other important festivals are approaching indicating the periods in the year more leave than normal is likely to be requested.
