Manage Staff Breaks
A break at work is a period of time during a shift where staff are allowed to take time off from work. There are different types of breaks, and depending on the length and the employer’s policies, the break may or may not be paid. Meal breaks or lunch breaks usually range from 30 minutes to one hour. The purpose is to allow staff to have a meal that is regularly scheduled during the work day.
Snack breaks are usually shorter than meal breaks, and allow the employee to have a quick snack to accomplish other personal needs. Some employers allow staff to stop their work for short durations at any time to take care of these needs. A good example is the practice to have regular rest away from computer screens.
Schedule24 Professional supports scheduling of multiple breaks that may or may not be included in the working hour. Longer shift durations will require more than one break, or several smaller breaks. Where breaks are excluded from the work hour total the entire work day from start to finish will be longer than the number of hours calculated for payment in order to accommodate this time. Comprehensive time sheet reporting automatically calculates a breakdown of these times for payroll purposes.
